Late January 2019, Morocco’s health ministry launched a national mobile phone survey to assess the risk factors for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).
According to the ministry, the survey which will be completed on February 28, 2019, will be conducted among the Moroccan population aged over 18 years. Mobile data collection will be via Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and SMS.
Th survey aims to reveal the health status of the Moroccan population to adapt the national strategy for prevention and control of NCDs.
In Morocco, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and other NCDs are responsible for two-third of the nationwide mortality, according to the health ministry.
The mobile survey, which is supported by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT), is part of the “Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative” project.
Launched globally in 2015 by Bloomberg Philanthropies, with the support of the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC Foundation and the World Health Organization (WHO), this project aims to provide to help governments build a sustainable capacity for collecting and using scientific data to guide decision-making and health policy-making.
